Light in Darkness

New Years '25

2024 has been a really rough and dark year for me, personally. But in the midst of that darkness, there've been some constants that brought me light, and given me the strength to go on...

Silky Anteaters: These guys are so funny and cute. It's hard to not feel at least a little better when I look at photos of these guys. Fun fact: the little guy in the picture is actually doing a threat display!
Katrina: My sweet, sweet little old lady. It's not as easy to spiral and go off the deep end when you have something this cute and sweet depending on you! The best anchor I could ever ask for.
Cigarettes: I'm not proud of this one. Let's move on.
Nail Polish: I got really into nail polish/painting as a hobby this year. It's been expensive fun to collect new pretties and the ritual of giving myself manicures is relaxing.

For anyone curious, in this photo I'm wearing Ox by Bee's Knees Lacquer.
Music: This one is a constant and a given. I don't know what I'd do without tunes to flood my ears and occupy my thoughts. The album pictured is A River Ain't Too Much To Love by Smog, aka Bill Callahan, an arguable lo-fi pioneer. My favorite song from the album, Rock Bottom Riser, is a strong contender for song of the year for me. Thank you to my #mather for letting me leech off the spotify family premium plan.

I am a rock bottom riser
And I owe it all to you...
My Friends: Thank you to all my friends, new and old! I feel so privileged to have met so many beautiful and interesting people this year, and to be able to call them my friends. There's solace in knowing that I keep such good company.
Community: Not just my friends, but the community I've built online through various hobbies (namely nail polish and smallweb), and especially my newly found sober community. I didn't know community like this was possible. I feel so lucky!
