Genre(s):

drama

Rewatch?

Yes

Ongoing?

No (aired April 4, 2013 – August 29, 2015)

Thoughts/Notes:

I was SUCH a hannibal girly in high school, y'all don't even know. I remember seeing the season 2 announcement on TV and getting so excited I jumped off the bed and cut/scarred my leg. This was def my first "fandom". I've watched through the series like 2 or 3 times. Just started this rewatch with a friend and I'm honestly really hyped/looking forward to it! Anyways,

Breaking Bad

Kind:

TV

Genre(s):

crime drama

Rewatch?

Yes

Ongoing?

No (aired January 20, 2008 – September 29, 2013)

Thoughts/Notes:

Moving on to BRBA now that I've finished watching BCS. I actually watched this show while it was airing - I was in middle/high school. It's interesting to revisit it after all these years because my feelings/thoughts are vastly different. For example, Walter is no longer cool in my eyes, but insufferable. update (112222) I hate Walter SO FUCKING MUCH ITS MADDENING I can't believe I used to think he was cool, thank the lord I grew up and my frontal lobe fully developed. Every episode has me malding at Walter but this show is SO GOOD it keeps me watching. I'd say this watch-through, Jesse and Skyler are my favorites. I cannot wait for walter to fucking die (spoiler/highlight to show)

Alien

Kind:

Film

Genre(s):

horror, sci-fi, suspense

Rewatch?

No

Thoughts/Notes:

Watched this on halloween with a friend, my first time viewing this classic. Makes me think that suspense is a lost art these days - there's so much waiting, watching, listening. Long stretches of time meant to make the viewer anticipate. Most things I watch now is non-stop, every frame being utilized, bam-bam-bam. Anime especially, I think. I'd say It speaks to a shift in viewer attention span, but also a lack of budget. Or rather, an unwillingless to spare money, because money is time, and time spreads things out. Anyways...! Tangent aside, the movie was good. Glad to have this classic under my belt now.

Hellraiser

Kind:

Film

Genre(s):

horror

Rewatch?

No

Thoughts/Notes:

Watched this on halloween with a friend, my first time viewing this classic. I enjoyed it! Makes me miss practical effects. A very ooey-gooey movie.

Wendell & Wild

Kind:

Film

Genre(s):

horror, comedy

Rewatch?

Gladly :-)

Thoughts/Notes:

An instant halloween classic - I wish we had movies like this when I was a kid, something I could actually see myself in. The soundtrack is great. Also thought it was cute that the titular demons are a callback/self-insert of Key & Peele.

Better Call Saul

Kind:

TV

Genre(s):

drama (crime/legal), comedy

Rewatch?

Yes but not really

Ongoing?

No (aired February 8, 2015 – August 15, 2022)

Thoughts/Notes:

I watched the first two or so episodes of BCS back when it first started airing, and promptly forgot about it. Fast forward to now, 2022 - I keep seeing Breaking Bad and BCS come across my social feeds. It's having a resurgence. So I decided to pick BCS back up where I dropped it all those years ago - man, is it good. Jimmy's the thotty little scumbag that everyone loves!

Flatland: The Movie

Kind:

Film

Genre(s):

science fiction

Rewatch?

Probably not

Thoughts/Notes:

Watched this with a friend after reading the novella. A funny and novel experience for sure. Was really curious to see how they would visualize the 2D space of "flatland" after reading the novel and boy, I was not dissapointed. Disgusting, brutalist, 2000s CGI goodness.
Relevant memes:

Golden Girls

Kind:

TV

Genre(s):

comedy, sitcom

Rewatch?

Gladly!

Ongoing?

No (aired September 14, 1985 – May 9, 1992)

Thoughts/Notes:

Gonna be honest, I only picked this series up after Betty White's death. I realized that I’d never seen the show before and I had no nostalgia for Betty White or Golden Girls. I just wish I hadn't waited for her to die to start the show! Turns out those old white cunts are funny as FUCK!!! The closer I got to the end of the show, the slower I watched; these girls seriously grew on me and I didn't want to say bye :-( Ngl, that last episode made me tear up a lil. Still need to make some fan art for this show. But for now, here's a meme I made. (Dorothy's my favorite, btw :-))

The Woman in the Dunes

Kind:

Film

Genre(s):

drama, psychological

Rewatch?

No

Thoughts/Notes:

Watched this after reading the novel that the film is based off of. It's a part of the criterion collection, whose streaming service I accidentally subscribed to for an entire year. Didn't get much use out of their streaming service, but I watched this at least. I will say that I appreciated the film adaptation, if only because I had a hard time visualizing the sandy landscape in the novel. Although... maybe that was the point.

Daughters of the Dust

Kind:

Film

Genre(s):

drama, history, romance

Rewatch?

I really should...

Thoughts/Notes:

Absolutely beautiful. The non-linear storytelling was a bit lost on me but I think that speaks to my under exposure, I guess I’m just too used to traditional narrative structures. I initially watched the movie because it was being pulled from the criterion channel, and it’s such a shame :-( I’ll have to find another way to watch it. This one definitely deserves a second watch, not just for absorption but because it’s so gorgeous.

Ghost World

Kind:

Film

Genre(s):

black comedy

Rewatch?

Nah

Thoughts/Notes:

Another movie I watched because it was being pulled from the criterion channel. I’d known about Ghost World for a while and figured I’d get around to either reading the comic or watching the movie eventually... I almost wish I’d read the comic instead because I’ve never experienced attraction to Steve Buscemi before watching this film. I don’t know what they put in this movie but it’s POTENT!! DO NOT watch if you don’t want anything awakened in you. Buscemi’s character sleeps with the 18yr old protag so that’s another reason to maybe not watch :-/
Some letterboxd reviews:

Dropped

What We Do in the Shadows

Kind:

TV

Genre(s):

comedy, "horror", supernatural, mockumentary

Rewatch?

No

Ongoing?

Yes

Thoughts/Notes:

Started watching this coz some friends of mine were into it. It's adequately entertaining. Guillermo is the fat mexican LGBT rep I've always wanted. The events of episode 9 in this latest season are... questionable, though. Not a fan. Wasn't really invested in the show outside of something to watch while eating so I'm dropping it.
